The films can be used to make extremely thin tear resistant tape. However, there is a great deal of variation when using different membranes as the substrate for the tape. It depends on the raw material of the base material: polyvinyl chloride (PVC), polyethylene (PE), polypropylene (PP), polyethylene terephthalate (PET) or other raw materials. 

For example, PVC can be very soft and is therefore mainly used in the manufacture of insulating tape and masking tape, such as the tape used in plastering. Very soft PVC can be used as a sheath for insulating wires. In contrast, rigid PVC can maintain a stable shape and is therefore suitable for production packaging belts and internal packaging. All PVC films have one thing in common: they are very durable, do not catch fire, and they can be printed and embossed.

PE or PP film is mainly used as the base material for office tape. They can also be used as surface protection and packaging materials (packaging).

PET films have very unique properties. They are mainly used as a base material between two primers in double-sided tape. Due to its thermal conductivity, it is also suitable for thermal management tasks in electronic devices. Their UV stability is very good, so they are usually used in outdoor environments.

In addition to the above uses, polyurethane, polyimide and cellophane/cellulose acetate are also used as film substrates due to their flexibility, water resistance and high temperature resistance.
